About Brian Sperry
There are very few things that I love more than the satisfaction of completing something and completing it well. One of my biggest beliefs is that if something is worth doing, then it is worth doing well. It pains me to see things done or made poorly, with minimal effort or consideration. So many times, out on the flight line, under the hood of my car, in the attic of my home, and in any other number of situations, I've found myself thinking that there must be a better way do things. Having to interpret poorly written instructions, either for myself or for someone else, is tedious and disheartening. Needing to exert some extraordinary effort to accomplish something small seems totally inefficient. I found the most joy in those several of those situations when the accomplishment of the task was made easier or more efficient by adapting a new technique, altering what or how something was done, or doing away with unnecessary steps. It became empowering when the task was done and everything worked flawlessly, or when that mental light bulb came on and the way to accomplish something was clear. At the conclusion of my career in the Marine Corps, I made the decision that I would help find those better ways of doing things by becoming an engineer. With my experience in fixing things, and intuitive understanding of how things work, it seemed a no-brainer that I could be one of the people that designs things better. I am looking forward to an engineering career in research, manufacturing, and design where innovation and efficiency improvement are of the utmost importance.

Associate Mechanical Engineer
Mechanical Engineering Technician
Unemployed
After retiring from the Marines in 2013, I worked for a time as a contractor, doing avionics work on the CH53 Reset Program. As I'd always thought, there had to be a better way to do and design many of the things I was working on and saw others doing. With that in mind, when the contract ended in August of 2014, I endeavored to become someone to improve how things are made; I started my path to becoming a mechanical engineer. I completed that journey with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University in May 2020. I learned a lot, understood past experiences even better, and picked up some hobbies and friends along the way.
