The goal of this internship was to improve the treatment capabilities of distillery wastewater. For this project, I conducted pilot-scale experiments for the cultivation of anaerobic granular biomass.

I was responsible for the safe treatment hazardous chemical waste. I performed commingling of like chemicals to reduce toxicity and reactivity of waste, and in-charge of sampling incoming & outgoing waste for analytical testing.

This research sought to develop organic compounds that could be used for the recycling of nuclear waste. During this position, I synthesized an organic compound and performed extraction experiments to determine ligand binding affinity to rare-earth elements. I operated qualitative and quantitative instruments such as the NMR, IR, and UV/Vis spectroscopy. In addition, I presented my project at 2014 MSU research conference & 2014 Van Andel Research Institute research conference.
