When I was hired, the Music Program was struggling to attract new students and to retain its current ones. By building a clearly-defined, integrated “pathway” leading students from the middle school program to the high school program and by expanding course offerings (Ukulele, Music Recording Technology, and Songwriting) to attract students who weren’t interested in traditional music courses, I was able to grow the program from 70 to 170 students and from three vocal ensembles to six.

Budgeting, Fundraising, program development, Concert promotions, conducting, staff development, volunteer recruitment and non-profit administration.

The parent booster organization enlisted my help in addressing frustration with the lack of jurisdiction over funds allocated to the music program. Since establishing nonprofit 501c(3) status, we’ve been able to raise $80,000 for our choir program since 2012 and help send 100+ students to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall. Incorporating gave our organization legitimacy in the community. As a result we have been able to secure more private donations and establish a stable source of funds to allow us to offer scholarships and travel opportunities to our students. My students gain valuable life skills in leadership, team building and aesthetic appreciation through these musical experiences.
