Are you familiar with the Dead Sea? Do you recall why the Dead Sea is referred to as such? The Dead Sea was named this way because there are no sources of water flowing to it and no sources of water flow from it. It lies there, stagnant. As a result of this stagnation nothing is able to live or survive, let alone thrive within it. It literally just sits there, stagnant, serving little purpose other than taking up space. This is not how people are supposed to be! We are meant to be constantly growing, learning new things, developing better versions of our selves for our personal and professional lives. We are then meant to share that growth with others through our own personal means. This is how we, as people, not only survive in this world it is how we thrive.This is the very metaphor that encapsulates why I do what I do. The people that make up an organization need to be fed and encouraged to grow themselves professionally as well as personally. They need to be encouraged to learn new things through education, coaching and mentorship. They need to be receiving training, development and education. They need to then give back. I believe that when people are provided with regular training and development they will naturally perform better in the workplace. I believe that teams are built and strengthened when the people that make up those teams are developing their skills, knowledge and then passing that on to others around them. Together, we make each other stronger, better. An organization that allows its team to sit in stagnation severely limits its potential for growth and relevance in the marketplace.
