Mr. Selph is currently a mechanical engineering specialist within the newly formed Corrosion Engineering Practice within the reorganized Black & Veatch operations group. His primary function has moved towards the design of cathodic protection and material selection for various Black & Veatch projects. He consults with projects about the best corrosion protection methods to employ in special situations not aligning with Black and Veatch standards ranging from buried services to uniquely corrosive services requiring research. He drafts corrosion related sections of work instructions and procedures independently for the Water business line when updates are required. He assists with annual updates of Energy business line procedures. He trains new staff in the area of corrosion control and cathodic protection both in the home office and abroad as well as reviews the work of others.His job duties involve review of project submittals for company standard and industry code compliance along with consulting with projects to resolve any material selection or preservation issues. His job duties also extend to basic coating system selection and welding engineering support when additional staffing is required.He supports projects ranging simple cycle, combined cycle, coal fired, and solar power generation facilities in the power generation business line; reverse osmosis facilities, waste water treatment plants, tunnel rehabilitation projects, cross country raw water lines, and water distribution lines in the water business line; substation design projects and stray current mitigation studies in the power delivery business line; and weapons storage facilities and fuel depots in the federal business line.

Responsibilities included writing, auditing, and maintaining ASME B31.1 piping/support work packages for the construction of an AP 1000 nuclear power plant. Conducted peer reviews for technical accuracy, constructability, and procedural compliance on work packages and field sketches produced in his work group. Performed field verification and supported construction through the RFI process, non-conformance and disposition process, and engineering design coordination report process. (design change requests) Main function was supporting construction activities in the turbine building.

Responsible for pipeline profiling with the Trimble R6 GPS Unit and S6 Total Station as well as logging Pipeline Current Mapping data along natural gas pipelines. The position required running the Radiodetection PCM Plus and Close Interval Potential Surveys.
