During my tenure with KPMG's Audit Technology, I was steadily promoted through a series of increasingly demanding positions to deploy firm D&A tech across 8 segments and 27 client ERP systems of the firm's largest global client. My contributions included maximizing my audit team’s impact by training them how to use analytics within their group and statutory audits worldwide.My successes included spearheading teams to deploy firm standard and custom analytics on +20 high-pressure carve-out audits (required for M&As). Ultimately, I led the largest carve-out ever for a major international oil field services company, directing a technical team of 15 to implement analytics across 13 ERP systems during a 2-month period.I am also proud of creating and deploying a Global Work Coordination tool to track +1700 stat audits across +130 countries with +400 partners. This tool was used to redesign the firm’s global tool distributed within KPMG Clara’s client collaboration and engagement site modules. In addition to this, I led the customized development and deployment of 40+ custom-built analytics for KPMG’s largest global client. This involved designing and implementing an additional 40+ bespoke analytic builds across all significant business areas of the audit.

In this role, I led the launch of our Audit Data Analytics practice across KPMG Houston’s largest, most complex audits, spanning 70 countries, 200 audit partners, and 1000s of audit managers/staff. This entailed designing, building, and leading an audit data analytics’ multi-team organization.Highlights included deploying various firm standard and custom analytics on 26 audits within the BU, requiring lots of organizational change management. Additionally, I designed and established the National Oil & Gas analytics development team with a balanced mix of audit and technical members. Also noteworthy, I expanded analytics deployment from 3 audits to 26 audits during the 4 years engaged as the BU Lead. Likewise, I defended 4 large audits in rebid scenarios with innovative solutions which improved the clients’ audit experience.

As an Audit Data & Analytics Manager, Brian oversees analysis teams that use KPMG’s proprietary automated audit procedures. In this role, Brian assists clients perform the extract, transform, & load process (ETL), oversees the performance of KPMG’s automated audit procedures, helps resolve technical errors within the audited data with SQL & SQL Server, and works with the Audit Managers & Partners to interpret CAAT routine results within the context of the financial audit. Additionally, Brian oversees teams that use IDEA data analysis tools to investigate possible audit exceptions to determine how they affect audits or comply with accounting / auditing standards. Further Brian supports routine development and innovation of new automated audit routines by industry to include industries such as software, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and banking and among accounting and IT General Controls testing within the KPMG proprietary tool as well as within IDEA using IDEA Scripting. Brian has been using Computer Aided Auditing Techniques and tools since 2009 to design, develop and execute routines that perform analysis over 100% of populations as large as 47 million records to extract the anomolies within financial records for further investigation.

Within the Financial Audits, I conducted GITC and Application controls evaluations for Houston clients. This included engaging in various IT advisory projects ranging from implementations, internal audits, and strategic planning.As a result, I achieved high satisfaction from clients in the upstream, mid-stream and downstream Oil & Gas industry. Also noteworthy, I was selected as one of the first 8 in the nation to establish and scale a Data Analytics practice within KPMG US.

For 4 years, I spearheaded multiple financial audits of oil & gas, local governments, and school districts. This included completing several IT advisory and business process improvement advisory engagements.Most notably, I was contracted as CFO by State of Texas to prevent further fraud, waste, and abuse of public funds of a struggling school district. As well, I was tasked with conducting 10+ forensic investigations, including one with the FBI and another as an expert witness in federal court.

While in Marines, I served as an infantry team and squad leader leading marines in combat.In my last year, I served with the base Military Police, as a Section Supervisor with direct responsibility for the security and safety of one-third of Marine Corps base. During this time, I also completed the Corporals’ Leadership Course, an academically intensive leadership training for unit leaders.
