Mr. Smart has 34 years of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry with primary focus on reservoir engineering and conventional waterflood management. He received his B.A.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1982 and Professional Engineer’s designation from APEGGA in 1987. Brian’s career started with a major integrated oil & gas producer in Western Canada that was followed by a four year assignment with their affiliate in France. From 1995 through 2003 he was Chief Engineer for Advantage Energy Services Ltd, providing consulting services to a wide range of clients primarily in North America and Asia-Pacific regions. Since 2003, Brian has been employed in Western Canada by junior to intermediate producers in the 1,000 to 20,000 boepd range managing executive portfolios in Reservoir Engineering and Development. The most recent of these, from 2007-2010, was TUSK Energy and its successors prior to joining TSO Energy in August 2010. In October 2015 he added the role under a consulting contract of President at Topanga Resources, a private company acquiring producing oil & gas assets primarily in Alberta. This contract ended Feb 28, 2017 at which time Brian returned to AESL as President with a new mandate in partnership with related IT spin-off company Tecskor Corporation to bring key elements of business management leadership to the company’s focus. With the help of Tecskor’s work ware platform called PEAK (“Performance Excellence through Action and Knowledge”), AESL helps organizations by aligning multidisciplinary teams to common goals, prioritizing work, assigning clear accountabilities for job execution and improving communication throughout the organization to generate superior financial results.
