CurrentBrian Smithweck joined Adams and Reese in 2014 in the firm’s Mobile office, and practices in the areas of tax, corporate securities, mergers and acquisitions, business planning, and estate planning.Brian received his Masters of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida in 2011 and is admitted to practice in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.Brian represents clients with the formation, operation and termination of business entities, as well as corporate restructuring and mergers and acquisitions. He also advises individuals and businesses as to federal, state and local tax issues, representing them in tax disputes with the IRS and negotiating tax settlements.Brian’s additional representative experience includes:Counseling clients with inbound and outbound international entity and transaction tax structures;Forming non-profit entities, including one of Alabama' first regional healthcare organizations, and obtaining federal tax exempt status for both public charities and private foundations;Providing operational advice to non-profit and tax exempt entities and overseeing significant charitable contributions; andAdvanced estate and wealth transfer planning including insurance trusts, charitable trusts and grantor trusts.
