I love doing research. It is so rewarding to get something to work that no one has ever done before. The process is so amazing because you go from an idea to something new that exists in physical reality. My work has been in plasma physics, trying to form toroidal current (current around a doughnut) without the use of a central solenoid coil. In the time I've been here we've increased that current from 40 kA to 90 kA. Along the way we've also learned a lot about how the machine works by measuring the internal fields to learn about the current profile. We've also learned about conditioning the walls with helium to operate with deuterium. The operating frequency of the injectors has been scanned from 5.8 to 68.5 kHz and we've learned that at higher frequency we are seeing better confinement properties and amplification of our injected current.I hope to continue working on exciting research and pushing the envelope of what's possible.
