Baca provides specialist supported accommodation and development training for young people who are 16 years and over. We specifically work with unaccompanied asylum seeking children, refugees, victims of trafficking and those at risk of exploitation.I supported the founder to develop the concept and start the initiative. Mentored and coached founder through Baca's growth.Developed and recruited Board members to provide effective governance and oversight for the charity through its growth and development.

Positioned Cord as niche player in the International Aid market as a peacebuilding organisation specializing in capacity development. Cord won the Coventry International Peace Prize in 2010.Increased turnover from £1.9m to £3.5m in four years. Employ 120 staff, working in 5 countries. Directly line-manage 5 staff.• Designed governance model for Consortium bid in Laos PDR with 5 INGO partners and 3 national partners – Cord is the lead agency. Negotiated with partners the details for the governance structure and reporting mechanisms.• Conceptualised, negotiated and developed Joint Venture for Toilet TwinningTM with Tearfund. Negotiated capitalisation of joint venture and the price for the residual value of the original initiative. Secured Cord’s capital contribution from business leader. Return on investment for Cord to date is 7:1 and growing.

• Led strategic review of programmes in 2006 resulting in Cord’s Transforming Lives and Conflict Strategy 2007-2011. Turning Cord from small refugee focused agency with UK headquarters to an International Peacebuilding organisation with Asia regional office, and UK/European Office and Africa Regional Team (still based in UK).• Reduced financial risk profile from 70% reliance on income from UNHCR and 30% from UK private-fundraising by diversifying funding base to 80% of income from 5 major donors UNHCR/BPRM/EU/ DFID/JOAC) and 20% from UK private-fundraising.• Opened up new programme in Burundi in 2006. Programme has since spent £2.5m achieving MDG 7c in Rutana province. Improving access to water and sanitation for returning refugees and internally displaced people who had fled Rutana province during the conflict in Burundi.• Re-opened work in Cambodia and supported the development and expansion of a regional office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia which has since opened up work in Laos PDR and Myanmar with local civil society partners.

• Successfully motivated and supported programme staff in-country to use the in-house partnership development systems resulting in a 20% increase in proposal submissions, a 65% increase in restricted fund income and a 35% increase in the number of projects. • In collaboration with the Finance Manager, improved organisational understanding of project accounting and enhanced the organisation’s management and accounting of restricted funds. Managed seven major project contracts with UK and European donors.• Strengthened systems for learning between country programmes to support the integration of Skillshare’s cross cutting themes: peace building, HIV/Aids, gender, and human rights. • Completed Skillshare International’s ethical policy, which had stalled for a number of years, to support our engagement with the corporate sector.• On a staff away day on team building at Leicester Tigers Rugby Ground, I used the history of rugby as a metaphor to discuss team dynamics and envision staff on the theme of “many teams in one team”. I conceptualised the methodology, developed the material and facilitated the workshop. The training was well received and commended for being creative, innovative, highly participatory and thought provoking.• Facilitated on Skillshare International’s Quality Training Course for development workers and trained country office staff in India on the new programme funding reporting system software.• For MBA thesis, reviewed Skillshare International’s Leadership Development Programme and made recommendations for the product development, marketing and strategic positioning for a spin-off consultancy company to be created.
