Brian Weiser is Professor of History at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He received his BA from Columbia University and his Ph. D. from Washington University in St. Louis. He has published Charles II and the Politics of Access, "The Shamings of Falstaff" in the Oxford Handbook of the Age of Shakespeare, and several articles on the court of Charles II and the representation of monarchy in Charles II’s reign. His current project, “The Vicar, the Playwright and the Horsegelder: Sex, Religion and Shame in an Elizabethan Village,” analyzes the public shaming of a vicar as a window into various aspects of late Tudor and early Stuart society, such as shaming rituals, drunkenness, and marital violence.
