Bringing international experience with renewable energy (particularly geothermal energy) and energy markets to support the interest and needs of others.Projects have included:- contracting of MFAT renewable energy work in Laos and Cambodia supporting the ASEAN Renewable Energy Facility- continuation of World Bank GEUD and GREM projects in Indonesia (see below)- investigation of potential geothermal direct heat projects in unconventional settings e.g. Hauraki Plains.

Provided technical support on renewable energy projects mainly outside the Pacific (especially Indonesia, African Rift countries, Caribbean, Laos and Cambodia) for the New Zealand Aid Programme. Work included in-country visits prior to COVID-19, then helping service providers adjust activities to the new COVID-19 environment. Broad renewable energy strategy papers were prepared to help set future direction.

Responsible for the development of East Harbour's business with a focus on the commercialisation of energy projects for clients. Also responsible for the provision of broader strategic consulting services. Some significant secondments include: - as Executive Officer of the New Zealand Geothermal Association (see separate description),- onto the Board of Inquiry for the proposed 250MW Tauhara Geothermal Power Station,- into a World Bank team assisting Pertamina Geothermal Energy develop two Indonesian geothermal projects (Ulubelu 3&4 and Lahendong (Tompaso) 5&6),- into World Bank teams supporting Indonesian geothermal development through government exploration drilling (Geothermal Energy Upstream Development Project - GEUD) and mezzanine finance (Geothermal Resource Risk Mitigation Project - GREM)- into the Ministry of Economic Development initially to the position of Acting Team Leader, Energy Markets Regulation/Monitoring Unit for regulation compliance reporting and a range of other technical support functions. Also part of an "Officials review panel" on electricity market performance,- onto panels assessing proposals for renewable energy research and development funding.

Appointed in 2005 as the first Executive Officer of the New Zealand Geothermal Association. This has involved putting the Association on a commercial footing under the direction of a Board. The Association more than trebled in membership in this period. NZGA actively informs government, public and industry on geothermal matters, and encourages the development of the industry.

Responsible for the provision of general consulting services with a focus on geothermal developments, but with a broader emphasis on "due diligence" exercises and consent-related investigations.Seconded for a year into the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand Ltd. Responsible to senior staff of the Strategic Development and Technical Development Groups, for wide-ranging investigations of geothermal projects and strategic views on geothermal investment generally. The goal was to re-establish a geothermal business unit within ECNZ.

Range of responsibilities associated with technical support for the Wayang Windu Geothermal Project, West Java from project conceptualisation, to in-country establishment, with an eventual focus on environmental permitting and resource management.

Managed the Thermal Team that included 10 engineers working on a range of thermal generation projects, while building up DesignPower's geothermal business and capability. Responsible for the provision of specialist advice on geothermal matters and responsible for management of project teams associated with those projects. Projects extended previous studies. Work included "due diligence" reviews for major private power investors.

Responsible for the provision of on-call services to a range of clients including DesignPower New Zealand Ltd, WORKS Corporation, Ministry of Energy (Gas and Geothermal Trading), Rankine and Hill Ltd (Geothermal Trading), and Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (for sale of community irrigation schemes).

A technical advisory service was provided to the principal client (Ministry of Energy, Gas and Geothermal Trading Group) and technical audit was carried out on project proposals and reports. The main focus related to scientific investigations, measurement and development of the Kawerau Geothermal Field, including preparation of an Investigation Report and the drafting of a five year management plan.

Assisted with the administration of the Huntly boiler contract during boiler commissioning.Responsible for the administration of the Ohaaki geothermal Power Station turbo-generator contract with Mitsubishi/Fuji Electric for a period during station design and construction.

Experience involved office and field studies related to the operation, maintenance and development of both Wairakei geothermal and Aratiatia hydroelectric stations and their associated services.
