I founded Technomics Research to focus on researching innovation system development in industries and cities. Projects to highlight include: Canadian Forest Sector innovation indicators for Natural Resources Canada, a literature study for Industry Canada. I have also significant experience with evaluating research funding organisations (Australia, New Zealand and British Columbia).My personal academic research interests focus on: 1. innovation in resource rich economies. With new technologies being developed and deployed resource industries are critical pivot points of the new disrupted economy. Autonomous machinery is not just round the corner it arrived 'yesterday'.2. performance and evaluation of the non-business research system. Non-business research systems (universities, government and charities) are competitive, complex and multidimensional environments in their own right. Incentive structures and policies act as market signals and drive strategic behaviour just as commercial markets drive the strategic behaviour of for profit firms. 2. International Value structures. What are the connections between clusters generating the global spatial structures of innovation (see the book Innovation System Frontiers).From July 2014 I am an Adjunct Professor at the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School at the University of Saskatchewan. I am also a Research Fellow with the CPROST research centre at Simon Fraser University.I worked for the Australian Commonwealth Public Service on science, technology and innovation indicators analysis between 1989-1995 and on agricultural and resources science and innovation policy (1995-2000). Between 2000 and 2004, I was with the AEGIS research centre at the University of Western Sydney, where he was responsible for data analysis of innovation related issues.Skill and knowledge specialisations: innovation system measurement, performance measurement and innovation policy issues development/velocity.
