Program Manager
Vp, Property Treaty Underwriter
Program Manager
I was responsible for the goal setting, performance monitoring, and viability assessment of a $45 million portfolio consisting of condominium, winery, agriculture farm and ranch, and postal lessor’s risk programs. Holding regular meetings with the program administrators, I facilitated discussions on topics such as emerging market trends, updates to claims activity, adequacy of the underwriting guidelines, and progress towards established goals. I created reports and led roundtable discussions with key internal personnel to provide updates on assigned programs and receive cross-functional feedback. Overseeing the underwriting process, I reviewed referrals outside the program administrator’s authority, ensuring eligibility and setting pricing and terms, while also participating in annual onsite audits to ensure adherence to the underwriting guidelines and state filings. Additionally, I contributed to our department's data analytics initiatives, developing Power BI standardized templates and serving as the department's representative for these efforts. Improving the department’s auditing process, I redesigned the audit workbook to better fine-tune the grading methodology as well as aggregate and graph results. I also developed Excel workbooks to aggregate program claims information, provide earned and gross written premiums as well as policy counts by month and by year, and calculate and graph incurred loss ratios.
Program Underwriter
I underwrote $35 million in annual premium volume for new business and renewal trucking referrals and had authority for accounts up to $170,000 in total premium (encompassing auto liability, auto physical damage, cargo, and general liability coverages). For accounts outside my authority (generally up to $500,000 in premium), I completed a thorough review and write-up prior to referring to the program manager. Using the Central Analysis Bureau, I monitored ISS and BASIC scores, reviewed the FMCSA inspection and violation history, and gathered information regarding recent business activity. The provided supplemental applications, IFTAs, driver MVRs, loss runs as well as loss control surveys were additionally used to determine eligibility and set pricing and terms. I performed monthly remote audits to ensure compliance with the underwriting guidelines and used the internal compliance worksheets, company filings, and the ISO Commercial Lines Manual to validate that policies were rated and issued correctly. I also communicated with the MGA to provide clarification and intent on items within the underwriting guidelines and establish whether inefficiencies existed in the referral process.
