Performed Chief Operating Officer duties for cryptocurrency and future-of-work startup Cashless, Inc. in Los Angeles. Involved in creation of business model, internal tool/process setup and adoption, and overall financial model, business, and technical diligence. Wrote and gained consensus for Employee Handbook.

- Established Project Management Office within development organization, particularly to deal with complex cross-dev team internal and external (client-facing) initiatives. - Project management procedures I implemented are based on Kanban, LeSS, and SCRUM. - Led the development group’s “people and process” portion of company-wide industrialization (company scaling) effort. - Initiated implementation of management structure within dev organization. This helps the group move to a more stable and scalable org structure with clear reporting lines and job functions.

- Designed and Implemented virtual actors which are software agents (bots) that behave as humans might within the system. The purpose is to simulate user behavior. - Drove and implemented several software development initiatives including static analysis tools, continuous delivery, continuous integration, and helped to shepherd unit testing.- Initiated and drove Agile project management and tools within organization, across 4 geographical regions (California, Seattle, Berlin, and Hungary). - Technologies Used: C, Java, PHP, Postgres, CI/CD (GoCD), Protocol Buffers, Biomimicry techniques

- Created CFK Productions which made custom recommendations technology solutions for companies who want to recommend things to their customers ( http://rosebud.io ).- Created the unique technology using modern techniques, based on original ideas from 1996. Uniqueness extends from focus on eclecticism of individuals.- Commercial product, Rosebud, is a recommendations engine that fully incorporates machine learning and operates on big data.- Commercially engaged with New Zealand ecommerce providers and retail entities.- All backend code architected and written by me in C with some maintenance scripting written in PHP.- Front-end movie recommendation iPhone app Rosebuddy designed and architected by me, with initial coding done by Paperkite in Wellington.- iPhone app Rosebuddy includes novel interaction model of two iPhones communicating directly with one another in close proximity (via Apple’s Bluetooth gaming API).- Core statistical algorithms are a combination of original work and common statistical techniques. In some cases, original work proven to have better accuracy than 3rd party “reference” commercial libraries.- Speed of resulting recommendations conservatively in tens of milliseconds range.- Technologies Used: C, PHP, bash, Postgres, Machine Learning

- Co-founded and co-led NZRise, an organisation set up to promote the interests of New Zealand IT firms ( http://nzrise.org.nz ).- Engaged with New Zealand ministries MED, DIA, NZTE, ministers, and MPs regarding two primary issues (software patents and Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement) and general areas of interest to New Zealand IT firms.- Engaged with leaders from NZ Beef & Lamb, NZ dairy industry, and web business regarding their interest in issues related to TPP, mostly in the area of the leaked IP chapter.- Grew membership from none to 20 New Zealand IT firms. Size of firms ranges from one to hundreds of employees.- Created web site, logo, marketing materials.

- For four and half years, was SilverStripe’s CEO ( http://silverstripe.com )- As CEO, took the company from $450k annual revenue to $4.2M.- As CEO, grew number of staff from 6 to 40.- Devised and championed innovative business model based on BSD open source licensing which proved to be a resounding success compared to the GPL model in use by some competitors.- Envisioned, devised, oversaw, and brought to market Dawn®, an innovative web environment monitoring tool: http://archive.org...silverstripe.com/dawn- Brought in professional Agile project management, quality assurance, support, and management capability to the company.- Drove effort to bring in external board members.- Provided strategic, technical, and management leadership and mentoring for staff and managers.- Client project work: Managed a few client projects and wrote some code in PHP and bash in the early part of time at SilverStripe. - Led project, architected, and designed networking infrastructure for Department of Labour’s flaghip Expat effort, New Zealand Now. Site garnered up to 1 million hits per day and has received significant press coverage globally. Site address: http://newzealandnow.info has since been brought under .govt.nz umbrella and made significantly less compelling than it was when I launched it.- Architected website redesign technical solution for Ministry for the Environment’s Quality Planning site which involved PHP, PostgreSQL, 3rd-party search, and Debian.
