Afriversity is a not-for-profit organisation working to release existing entrepreneurial potential in Africa. Afriversity offers a practical and individualised entrepreneurial development programme that combines hands-on business education, training and incubation, designed to help budding entrepreneurs.Brian developed and conducted four Business Owner Development Programmes and four Business Strategy Development Programmes from which more than 200 business owners graduated (2009 & 2010).

Brian managed and led the Business Information Department of the Chamber (with nine staff members reporting to him). The Dept served members and the wider business community (national and international) with business intelligence and relevant information for business growth and development. The Dept also managed communications and publications (electronic and print) from the Chamber and served as secretariat for business representation fora which included BEE, Transport, Port Liaison, HR. etc.Brian's efforts in bidding for a R1.8m USAID grant resulted in the Chamber being awarded the contract to train and develop 100 business owners over a 18 month period. Brian developed and managed the Integrated Small Business Owner Development Programme (iSBDP) which resulted in local business owners improving their own strategic management skills and growing their businesses.

Social Housing Foundation:Served as process consultant with local communities in developing social housing associations. The tasks here include conceptualising, developing strategic management systems and establishing sustainable institutions that are registered and operate with multi-million Rand budgets in building and managing housing stock.City of Cape Town:Consulted with 26-enterprise development NGOs to ensure compliance with City’s requirement for business plans with clear deliverables and budgets. Assessment of institutional needs also led to capacity building interventions. The City funded this project to the tune of R6.5 million.Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI): Developed and conducted a number of training interventions for craft business owners at NQF level 4 covering modules around ‘Operating a Craft Business’ and ‘Developing a Business Plan’. The programme is set over four week blocks over a period of four months, with practical mentoring visits to business sites to assist with integrating learning into daily operations.WCED – Further Education and Training Directorate: Completed an evaluation and research project for Western Cape Education Department – FET Directorate across Western Cape FET colleges funded by Danida – SESD. The research centred on assessing the establishment of a culture of entrepreneurship and enterprise development within all FET institutions and their programmes.Small Business Development Programme (SBDP):Developed and delivered Enterprise Development programmes to 50 business owners for the Cape Chamber of Commerce in 2005 and 2006. FNB, DTI and PGWC were the main funders

Facilitated repositioning of this national NGO’s Enterprise Development Programme towards a market development approach (MDA). This was an R7m project over 3 years. Developed implementation plan, budgets, recruited staff and conducted orientation. Developed management, monitoring and evaluation and reporting systems. In addition to advocacy and lobbying tasks, also facilitated buy-in from the organisation’s key stakeholders. Served as the principal consultant to strategically transform the Enterprise Development Programme from a limited business training and mentoring approach to a market development facilitation programme that provided access to real economic empowerment opportunities for disabled people.

Brian led TTO's largest department with 20 business trainers, two coordinators and one administrator. The Dept served both the informal emerging business owner and the more sophisticated and established business owner with a number of dedicated business development programmes.
