About Brian Keiser

I aim to build on my career in higher education and take on roles that allow me to implement high impact practices. I developed a new state-of-the art academic advising center at the University of Bridgeport where my staff work to improve retention and overall student success. Overall, the success of the center is vital to the growth of the University. I spend considerable time building relationships with students, staff, faculty and community members. I pride myself on the work I do in the surrounding communities because it allows me to be build strong working relationships with students before they come to college.I am an active member of NACADA, which is the professional organization for academic advising. I presented at the CT State Drive-In conference, the Region 1 conference, and current serve as a research member for the First-Generation Steering Community. On the other side, I will be conducting my doctoral research at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital while I focus on a career in academic or student affairs, specifically advising and student success. My advising philosophy focuses on student success inside an outside of the classroom. My long-term goal is to work towards a senior administration position where I have the ability to work with the entire student body and make decisions that will positively impact their collegiate experience. Additionally, I plan on continuing my research in child development. My research focuses are: father-preterm-infant relationships, attachment theory, preterm infant neurodevelopment, neonatal intensive care unit services and follow-up clinic programming, and developing interventions.
