Responsible for the management and delivery of complex electronic platforms and vehicle integration systems worldwide on both commercial and military contracts, including urgent operational requirements. * Managed and matched the delivery of highly skilled manpower and resources, ranging across engineering and technical functions, against the various programme demand requirements placed against the production team of up to 250 staff including teams deployed worldwide on a variety of support programmes.* Responsible for staff training and skill levels to meet programme requirements and those highlighted during the annual appraisal process to enable staff to remain up-to-date with new technologies.* Managed quality, cost and delivery metrics to enable informed and strategic decisions regarding platform delivery issues. Adjusted metrics/ data to focus upon specific problem areas to allow analysis to be carried out before improvement actions decided upon.* Championed and introduced Lean techniques into the production environment leading to significant improvements and cost reductions in platform delivery and touch times. Responsible for preparing the facility, resources, processes and procedures required to instal military platforms with the BOWMAN communication system.* Created and implemented a full organisational structure and produced job descriptions/ person specifications for the various skill sets - eg Inspectors, Electronic Test Engineers, Production Engineers and Installation staff - to enable recruitment within a tight timeframe.* Interviewed and recruited 50+ staff, and managed a team of Production Co-ordinators who recruited to the remaining 200 roles.* Established initial working procedures for all activities required within the production facility, from initial inspection to final electronic testing in accordance with customer and legislative acceptance criteria.* Reviewed installation design activities within production, making suggestions and recommendations on 'ease of manufacture' and design for installation leading to significant time savings and manufacturing improvements.* Introduced sub-assembly manufacture and the change from 'batch' single bay installations to production flow lines providing significant touch time improvements (up to 46% improvement on Land Rover systems integrations).* Provided production mangaement advice and supervision for permanent locations set up in Germany and Canada, plus all mobile deployed teams. Ensured relevant Lean and continuous improvement processes were implemented across all GD UK facilities and that all mandatory standards were maintained.

* Developed a Land Mobile Platform Installation/Conversion Plan identifying platform types, quantities and unit affiliations from MoD supplied worldwide data. Liaised with the MoD representative to plan vehicle input by type and quantity against the MoD Force Readiness Cycle. This included 18,000 platforms across 5 continents with over 1,000 different vehicle designs and more than 80 different types of vehicles across 3 services.* Collaborated with a team of software developers to deliver a planning system that was robust enough to enable 'live' planning of multiple scenarios based upon operational and training deployment plans. Plan was used to identify scheduling from unit level conversion dates down to platform delivery and to carry out basic resource planning for installation and support staff.* Generated a production facility from a brownfield site that met all current legislative standards and was capable of delivering up to 80 fully integrated military vehicles per week. Developed a Statement of Work to enable the complete upgrade of a vehicle storage hangar into a facility suitable for installing electronic communication systems into a wide variety of wheeled and tracked military vehicles. This included the complete upgrade of all electrical requirements (240V and 413V), all workshop lighting, vehicle exhaust extraction, heating, office and workshop infrastructure.

Worldwide

Served a full 22-year career in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).* Served as a Warrant Officer within a military integrated project team responsible for the introduction of the £2.4billion BOWMAN communication system: evaluated bids from potential subcontractors, marking submissions against criteria and making recommendations to senior management.* As a permanent Staff Instructor, attached to the Territorial Army, was responsible for all vehicle repair and maintenance across 5 UK sites using civilian mechanics and contract repair systems. Also responsible for all trade, military and adventure training for REME staff which culminated with the TA staff winning two trophies in the annual Military Skills Competition (1998).* Managed workshops, repair facilities and mult-disciplinary teams of up to 50 staff in the UK and worldwide: included amalgamation of two separate repair organisations to create a complete turnkey repair service in an operational station in Northern Ireland.
