In the United States, about 1 in 3 adults has prediabetes, and more than 8 in 10 of them don't know they have it. Without taking action, many people with prediabetes could develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years.As the Lifestyle Program Director, I will support a team of Lifestyle Coaches who lead the National DPP lifestyle change program. The National Diabetes Prevention Program—or National DPP—was created in 2010 to address the increasing burden of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in the United States. This national effort created partnerships between public and private organizations to offer evidence-based, cost-effective ways to help prevent type 2 diabetes.

The mission of the University of Minnesota Occupational Therapy Program (OT) is to educate leaders in occupational therapy through innovative experience-based education and research to advance the science of OT, and foster the health and quality of life of individuals, communities, and societies. We value empathy, expertise, teamwork, results, and leadership.The program offers a 37 month, 116 credit, graduate-level professional program completed over nine semesters. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination for the Occupational Therapist, administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this examination, the graduate will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR).

The Disability Action Network (DAN), a grassroots network aimed at creating a more inclusive environment by connecting people with disabilities and their support systems to area resources. The network includes funding agencies, provider agencies, people with disabilities and their advocates, and community organizations.In 2019, DAN hosted it's first No Limits: Ability Awareness Week (the events originating in Greenbay, WI) to continue our advocacy work during the third week of July. These events aim to showcase the abilities of people and highlight the enrichment they bring to the community. The events are held during the third week of July to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat proclaimed July 20-26 as ‘No Limits Ability Awareness Week’ in the city and in 2020 the event virtually reached and connected to over 8,000 people.
