The Healthcare Environment Inspectorate (HEI) was established by the then Minister for Health to provide independent public assurance on the quality and safety of healthcare services across Scotland. As one of the first inspectors appointed, my main role was to lead inspection teams during the inspection of NHS acute services against national standards for infection prevention and control. Lead officer responsibility for developing a Duty of User Focus and designing, implementing and evaluating a framework for involving service users in the scrutiny of healthcare services. My final year was spent leading a team of inspectors as the accountable officer for the registration, inspection, complaints investigation, regulation and enforcement of private/independent healthcare services in Scotland.

Specialist in public health and health education. Lead emergency response officer covering a wide range of environmental pubic health duties including food safety and occupational health and safety inspections and accident investigations, infectious disease control and outbreak management, pollution control and statutory nuisance investigation. Project lead for a number of programmes of work including community food development, Health Impact Assessment, Healthy Working Lives and community education.
