Intro to Cell and Molecular Biology/Biology Department- BIOL118This course is one of two initial pre-requisite courses for a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a requirement for all pre-health track students. I was a graduate teaching assistant/lab instructor under Dr. Jeanne Lawless. My primary responsibility was to teach the lab section of Binghamton University's Introductory Cell and Molecular Biology course. I coordinated lesson plans which were utilized to teach basic concepts in molecular biology and run lab exercises. With the assistance of my UGTAs, we were able to expose students to common lab techniques (microscopy, spectrophotometry, PCR, genetic transformation, gel electrophoresis, etc.) used to critically think about problems in the research setting. In addition to teaching students proper lab technique/protocol, I assisted students with scientific writing and taught them how to properly report their experimental findings. Furthermore, I held office hours each week outside of class to work with students that presented difficulties with the content in lab or in lecture. Other duties included designing review sessions, designing quizzes and the lab practical examination, and attending weekly meetings to ensure the proper material was being taught, assist individual lesson planning by Grad TAs, and update Dr. Lawless about student progress/issues.
