Recently, Brian's role at Curling Canada was updated to include management of Curling Canada Plus, the organizations live streaming platform. Managing content delivery, scheduling live broadcasts, observing analytics, and coordinating with a number on stakeholders are all major responsibilities in this role.

After freelancing with Curling Canada (formerly the CCA) in several capacities, Brian was offered a full time contract in October. During the competition season, Brian travels to events like the Tim Hortons Brier, and sets up the technology necessary for the competition to run. Meanwhile, he continues to work on digital media projects like websites, online videos, and social media campaigns, but also works in the marketing and development world rewriting manuals, and creating marketing materials aimed at the grassroots, club level. Finally, he continues to be involved in coaching and looks forward to working with all levels of Canadian curlers, from learn-to-curl programs to the highest level of international events.

Brian started Left Button Solutions to create media and technology projects for a variety of clients. Whether implementing a wiki based publication for LexisNexis, creating online courses for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, or managing social media projects for StudentWorkforce.ca, new media was clearly the focus. LBS has also worked on traditional media projects like providing creative services and writing for television commercials, and running the Toronto Film Challenge.Combining his love of media and his passion for curling, Brian was selected to work with Olympic Broadcast Services at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

Since 1999, Brian has been on staff as a curling instructor at Trillium Curling Camp in Guelph (Ontario Curling Association). In 2007, he worked for the Canadian Curling Association at the National Training Centre in Calgary for a high performance junior clinic. He also helped the CCA in 2009 in preparation for their 2010 Olympic Scouting. In 2008 and 2009, he was invited to work at the World Curling Federation junior camp in Fuessen, Germany. In 2009, 2011, and 2013, he also coached at Halifax's Whitecap Curling Academy. In 2010, he was the head instructor on a team that introduced curling to Brazil, in a 10 day Sao Paulo exhibition. IN 2011, he taught a coaching course in Riga, Latvia on behalf of the WCF. He's also traveled to Norway, Scotland, Latvia, and Switzerland coaching a world-class womens team (Team Tirinzoni - Aarau PwC) who placed 5th at the 2013 World Championships.At several camps, clinics, and events in between I've taught curling at all levels ranging from beginner clinics to high performance athletes. He was the Team Leader for Canada's World Universiade team, which took home silver at the 2014 event in Granada, Spain. In 2016, he was Team Leader for the Canadian Junior National Men's Team at the World Junior Championship in Denmark and again in 2017, at the World Juniors in Korea. In 2020, he coached Team Laura Walker to an Alberta championship, and a berth at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.I was also helped develop, and was the head instructor for, the inaugural Rocks & Rings program, which brings a special curling program into elementary school gym classes.

Writing for CBC's Olympic Primetime show required daily research, attention to detail, calmness in a rapidly changing environment (live TV). We produced between six and eight hours of television for fifteen days in a row, and covered all the important Canadian stories from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Starting in September 2015, Brian became a Curling Pro at the Toronto Cricket Club. He runs clinics, gives lessons, manages leagues, and helps run events at Toronto's leading sports and activity club.

Building on his time at the Olympics in Sochi, and a Team Leader role at the World Universiade in Granada, Spain, Brian turned his attention to another international multi-sport event and took on the role of Venue Press Manager for the PanAm and ParaPan-Am games in Toronto.He managed staff and volunteers in the beach volleyball stadium, and later, the athletic centre that hosted table tennis for the Para-Pan games. He was responsible for smooth media operations in all areas accessible by athletes, coaches, and media representatives from the 41 participating countries.

In 2010, I took over the Toronto Film Challenge, a competition that requires teams to produce films in 48 hours or less. Since then, we've run five competitions for more than 90 teams. The position involves marketing, event planning (kickoff, screenings, and awards gala), soliciting sponsorship, web and graphic design, and coordinating the program for more than 500 filmmakers.

Working in a fast-paced, digital newsroom, Brian was responsible for writing sports articles that published to theScore.com's mobile app, rated #1 Sports App by iTunes. Over the course of his time there, he published hundreds of articles on Major League Baseball, NFL, NCAA Football, the NBA, and a variety of other leagues, some of which were broadcasted as alerts to the app's five million monthly users.

Brian spent six years working in CBC’s Toronto newsroom, teaching journalists and producers how to use the various technology that went into broadcasting for television, radio, and online publication. This included video editing, on-screen graphics generation, script writing, and teleprompter operation. In the event that a system went down, live TV didn’t wait for it to get fixed. This prompted a lot of creative thinking, on-the-fly solutions, and sometimes with just seconds to spare before showtime.

As an Editorial Assistant, I was responsible for finding breaking news stories on the wires, and make sure they appeared quickly and accurately on-screen on the "ticker." I was also responsible for keeping scores updated, and writing notes and scoreboards for game results. In the event of a breaking news story, we'd prepare on screen graphics and information boards to accompany a live press event.
