Bedfordshire County Council Design and Print Services was taken over by Danka Services International and I continued working as Design and Print Manager.

Reporting to the Head of Facilities Management, in addition to the responsibilities as Assistant Manager I managed a cost effective design and print function and was responsible for profit and loss for the department.

Reporting to the Design and print Manager, and deputising in his absence, I was responsible for the day to day running of a busy design and print facility, comprising 25 members of staff, This included estimating, order processing and production planning, plus hands-on production work whenever necessary.

I joined the County Council as a guillotine operator, which was my official job title for the next six years. However, during that time I also took on responsibility for paste-up, progressing into computerised typesetting and desktop publishing as the technology became available.
