About Brian Ebel
I research water availability and water-related hazards related to landscape disturbances such as wildfire, forestry, military impacts, and other land-uses employing quantitative analysis techniques including computer simulation, analytical solutions, and simple approximations. I also have extensive experience processing and interpreting hydrologic data from a variety of surface and subsurface sensors.Specialties: unsaturated flow theory, measurements, and modeling; hillslope hydrology; slope instability; disturbance hydrology; post-wildfire hydrology
Listed skills include Hydrology, Groundwater, Modeling, Groundwater Modeling, and 18 others.

Cires Visiting Fellow
I conducted unsaturated flow simulations to examine infiltration, runoff, and groundwater recharge changes after the 2010 Fourmile Canyon Fire near Boulder, CO. The parameter estimates from these simulations provide the foundation for numerical modeling of post-wildfire hydrology and sediment transport using a fully-coupled surface water/groundwater model.
Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow
I planned and executed a field observation campaign to determine the hydrologic effects of the 2010 Fourmile Canyon wildfire near Boulder, CO. This included installing soil-water content sensors, tensiometers, rain gages, weather stations, flumes to monitor discharge, and silt fences for sediment movement. This work has been published in the peer-reviewed.
Hydrologist
I developed a conceptual model of unsaturated and saturated flow at Rainier Mesa and Shoshone Mountain, NV to examine radionuclide transport through fractured rock. This conceptual model was used to apply a simple preferential flow model to estimate first arrival times of conservatively-transported radionuclides to a carbonate aquifer. The results of this.
Post Doctoral Fellow
In this position, I conducted hydrologic modeling and slope stability estimates for a clear-cut forested site near Coos Bay, OR. I also examined the sensitivity of fully-coupled surface water/groundwater hydrologic models to model parameters. This work was published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.
