About Brian Elyo

My career experience to date has been varied and challenging. I enjoy being confronted by new ideas, new ways of working and new ways in viewing and expressing architecture. I am a team player and feed off the energy that comes from working in tight, inspired, motivated groups of individuals. I am at my best when I am involved from the earliest of programming through the delivery of cd’s. My passion for design is only rivaled by my desire for a creative, detailed, organized process and set of documents. Collaborating on ideas; be it with the client, the architectural team or the consultants are what motivate and excite me the most about the profession. I believe that every project brings a new opportunity to expand our overall knowledge of architecture and explore the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of what we do.Since Colorado was progressive enough to recognize that competent work experience is just as valid as any degree, i am anxiously working toward my architectural license. The State License Board has approved my experience to sit for my exams, so im actively pursuing licensure. The rules have since changed, but i am grandfathered in.Specialties: Architectural design Collaboration Presentations Documenting Coordinating Competitions - Education; High Middle Elementary Schools, Retail, Ecumenical Design, Community Centers, Structural Modeling and detailingAdjunct Revit Training, in-house question & answer supportSoftware: Sketchup, Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, Photoshop, Microsoft Office suites. I'm sure i can learn just about anything else with minimal training.Working knowledge of ArchiCAD, Vectorworks and RhinoI can work both on Mac and PC

i started making multi-track delay/reverb heavy experimental noise music around 1998 with my 4-track tape recorder; the latest is always here - http://mobdividual.bandcamp.com/ live i recreate the songs to be played solo on the electric guitar; shoegaze post rock avant doomi have performed festivals, houses, cafes, schools, venues, bars, clubs, outside, events, art shows, i have had music installed as art exhibits...comments:"Thanks for laying down the soundscape last night! It was a great addition to the event! Like Thurston Moore meets Sigur Ros."Matt Toole - facebook“‎with the trippy cascades of texture - dimension-shifting ambient planescapes”animus invidious - facebook"Highlights included a set by mobdividual... ...The unaccompanied electric guitarist used three amplifiers — I'm told he's used five in the past — and a couple delay pedals to create a beautiful noise that could stand up to My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields or wall-of-guitars experimentalist Glenn Branca."Bill Forman - Colorado Springs Independent"ahh brian...your music + thunderstorm = a mighty fine afternoon"Sarah - facebook

Collaborating with Architects and Engineers to complete commercial design projects from 2,500sf houses to 275,000sf high schools, to multiple t.i.'s of a hospital tower, to master planning - one-stop design/production shop. My favorite and specialty are public schools, all grade combinations; new, renovation, additions.During this time i have worked with over 25 different firms or sole proprietors. Since working with Pat Morgan, AIA, i can add churches to certain specialty. i've helped develop the design for over 20 churches in various parts of the country and 6 eventually got built for which i did all of the documenting and day-to-day consulting meeting with Pat on a regular basis with progress and questions, etc.. My last contract gig was working with HCDA Structural Engineers; i learned a tremendous amount. Working with Structural Engineers should be part of the IDP process, seriously.Since i've always been for hire and i've never had the rigmarole of school, i have spent my time absorbing and developing other people's ideas and helping to express and document them. i am hoping this time around to also find the time to develop some of the ideas i have, at least in paper/model form.Select Clients: RTA Architects, Centennial Collaborative, studioTEN Architects; HB&A Architecture & Planning; Patrick Morgan, Architect; h+l Architecture; Mark Harris, Architect; HCDA Structural Engineers, Echo Architecture, CRP Architects

  • Rta Architectes
    Architectural Intern
    Rta Architectes Feb 2005 - Aug 2007
I had the typical Intern responsibilities. My focus was on Education Projects, to include working with Design Advisory Groups from the initial programming meetings (including presenting to school boards), coordinating with consultants and completing CD's. I had the ability to delegate a certain amount of work when faced with it; coupled with the trust to manage myself and what needed to get done. I spent various periods of my employment designing and creating sketchup models with various Project Architects throughout the office, so i got the chance to work on several retail and medical projects. I was also among the first group to take a Revit project from start to finish and began to translate CAD standards into Revit standards.
  • H+L Architecture
    Architectural Intern
    H+L Architecture Feb 2004 - Feb 2005

  • Csna Architects
    Architectural Intern
    Csna Architects Sep 2001 - Feb 2004
More so than the practical experience i got at CSNA is the tone it set for the rest of my career. I was inspired to my path to get licensed. Several people took a mentorship role with me and i began to realize Architecture could be more than the sum of its parts. By the time i left I had basic knowledge of the kind of information a set of documents needed to hold, why and ways to organize the information. I had a grasp of the variety of work it takes to collaborate with a Design Advisory Group and the basics of layout and good, solid design. I had learned how dynamic the entirety of the design team - through construction - is and the variety of talent it takes to have a successful, satisfying project. I had a good time and learned a lot in a very short period of time.I've been chasing all sides of architecture ever since. The inspired, curious, artistic pursuit balanced with the need to satisfy the client (in all their needs) and come in "on time and on budget."
  • Gray Design Group
    Drafter
Gray Design Group Aug 2000 - Jul 2001
This was my first job out of the Air Force; drafting and some design. I worked closely with Dara Mattingly on design/material ideas. This job really helped me work faster and more accurate (autocad) and got me used to meeting deadlines, got me to understand the basics of documenting designs and helped ease me into the whole of architecture.
