I manage the day to day activities of the Industrial Products group, including the design, quoting, and programming of industrial firefighting systems. I direct the activities of my staff to develop new products and maintain existing products, with a focus on electrically and hydraulically actuated firefighting systems, but also supporting the design and improvement of monitors, nozzles, and other Elkhart Brass products. Our equipment spans the range from 1250 GPM manual monitors to networked systems of electrically actuated 2000 GPM monitors that can be remotely controlled from an HMI in a control room or an RF belly pack transmitter. Elkhart Brass industrial systems have been used extensively in hazardous locations for fire protection and gas mitigation, but have also found use in washdown applications with mining and military customers.

Design and support remote fire fighting equipment. The Industrial Products Group at Elkhart Brass designs and manufactures equipment that is installed in refineries, chemical plants, ship yards, power plants, waste to energy facilities and other large scale, industrial facilities world wide. Elkhart Brass equipment protects valuable assets while keeping fire fighters out of harms way. Worked with Solidworks and Autocad to design monitors, nozzles, and electrical control panels.

South Bend, Indiana Area

Provide engineering and design services for electronics, telecommunications, and other industries. I design rack mount and other enclosures as well as fixtures and jigs for assembly and test of equipment and components.

Elkhart, Indiana Area

Boyd Corporation manufactures extruded plastic products for the RV industry and other customers. I design new extrusion profiles and the accompanying dies and sizers in Solidworks 2013, programming 4-axis wire EDM and CNC machining center in MasterCAM. Boyd is a rapidly growing, dynamic company, and I helped to determine scalable design and production solutions to take the company to the next level of success. Drawing on the varied strengths and experience of the engineering/tooling department, we utilized a team approach to reduce design and fabrication time of new tooling, and using data driven metrics, drove down the mean number of die tunes required to produce ISIR approved extruded profiles.

South Bend, Indiana Area

As president of our kid's school's Parent Teacher Organization, I led the effort to provide ipads, Apple TV’s, and projectors in every classroom to enhance the classroom experience. I set the organization's priorities and managed a budget of approximately $25,000/year. I evaluated the status of the organization and set the agenda for the group's action and ensured programs remained on track. To achieve our goals, I recruited and managed a pool of volunteers to accomplish the organization’s objectives. I called and presided over meetings and worked to build consensus among disparate groups with different interests in a school with nearly 700 students.

San Francisco Bay Area

I performed the mechanical design of high performance RF equipment, including cell phone infrastructure equipment, high power data radios, RF filters and duplexors, RFID readers, and thin film modules. I designed test fixtures for both manual and automatic testing of RFIC's. I performed thermal analysis of electronics packages from IC's through large, high power equipment using Cosmos/Design Star finite element modeling software. I set up CNC machining capability in our model shop and learned CNC programming using MasterCAM. Design and drafting was performed using AutoCAD and Solidworks. My equipment design involved injection molded plastic, machined aluminum, die cast aluminum, and bent sheet metal. I worked closely with our machinist to create prototypes, samples, and test fixtures, and to improve reliability and tolerance control.

Clinton, Nj

I performed design and analysis of the heat transfer surface of fossil fuel fired steam generators using classical techniques and proprietary performance software. I worked in an aftermarket department that designed replacement equipment for our own and other OEM's boilers to improve performance or to allow different fuels to be fired. I authored engineering studies detailing the results of our analysis and our recommendations to the Customer. I wrote proposals for the supply of heat transfer equipment for boiler retrofits. I co-authored a paper that detailed the conversion of a steam generator to allow it to fire Powder River Basin coal. I presented this paper to the Joint Power Generation Conference in Orlando Florida in 1996.
