Workers' Compensation Medical Bill Examiner/Claims Representative

I spent four years serving customers in the Worker's Compensation Claims Division of The Hartford, both as a Medical Bill Examiner and as a Claims Representative. As a Claims Representative, my duties included communicating with employers, agents, government boards, medical providers, and injured workers for the purpose of investigating and analyzing claims; making determinations on coverage and compensability of reported accidents; calculating and issuing benefits; and arranging for medical treatment on accepted claims. As a Medical Bill Examiner, I was responsible for reviewing incoming patient medical bills, validating authorization and relatedness to the accepted accident, and calculating payments in accordance with state laws. I also was the priority contact for medical subrogation claims from other insurers, assisted with testing and training duties for new systems and procedures, and conducted internal quality reviews of our department's work product to assure compliance with applicable laws and company standards.
