My primary duties with AZGS are to conduct basin analysis and mapping surficial Quaternary deposits. I also evaluate and assess geologic hazards, and mitigation plans to reduce the risk of impact from hazards. Basin analysis includes subsurface characterization of existing datasets for deep-basin sequestration of CO2, and to support hydrologic studies for Assured and Adequate Water Supply studies throughout Arizona. My goals are to work on projects which have a positive, applicable and long-lasting impact on geology-related resources in the state. Outreach is important to me and my roles with GCFI and SCC fill this niche quite well.My highlights for 2012 include volunteering to help facilitate the trail design and interpretive signage for the Marcus Landslide Trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The trail had a grand opening on October 18th and represents the second largest geology-trail in the state next to the Grand Canyon's Trail of Time. I published reports related to CO2 sequestration (each for Safford, Willcox, and Tucson basins and statewide salinity). My mapping of the Paulden area was also completed and published - a very exciting area in terms of active Quaternary faulting! I continue to work with colleagues on the Little Chino Fault conducting paleoseismic research in Chino Valley. I was so lucky to have had two excellent field trips (one to the Grand Canyon and the other to Southeastern Arizona) with SCC (see Picasa albums).
