Contracted to provide project engineering services HB Fuller’s Global Engineering Team, I was tasked to assist driving to completion a $75 million adhesives plant expansion in Europe. As a key member of the multi-national closing team, I commissioned thermal reactors, process cleaning systems and re-designed components of their raw material storage facilities to conform to end goal functions. Validate equipment installations against design specifications and investigate performance issues. Supervise collaborative efforts of multi-national contractors and document construction progress.

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, I was the project manager on numerous capital projects in the areas of process improvement, equipment installation, facility rennovation, energy recovery, infrastructure rehabilitation and safety. Typically carrying six to eight major projects per year, I was responsible for each one from conception to completion. I supervised the collaborative efforts of multiple contractors and cross functional teams to successfully complete projects on time and within budget.Leveraging my six sigma black belt training, I’ve lead cross functional lean manufacturing and process improvement teams. My DMAIC manufacturing team reduced machine waste by 5% resulting in an annual savings of $375,000 and my Kaizen team reduced machine downtime by 30%.

Starting at Bonestroo as a Surveyor, I managed the daily operations of my survey crew. I was responsible for accurately interpreting the engineer’s design and replicating it in field for the construction crews. I was promoted to Civil Engineer after passing the EIT test. I became the project manager of several large scale projects, responsible for inspecting work for quality control / quality assurance, tracking budget expenditures and resolving unforseen conflicts between proposed construction plans and actual building phases of projects.

As a Process Engineer I supervised the daily operations in coating department including raw material handling, manufacturing, coating application and finishing. Partnering with raw material suppliers, I was able to reduce raw material costs by 25% while simultaneously increasing paper quality. Additional duties frequently included filling in as relief Shift Supervisor for the paper mill operations, requiring the coaching of 125 union employees in their daily functions.

Hired on at Boise Cascade as a Laboratory Supervisor, I reduced unnecessary overtime expenditures by cross training workforce which eliminated call-ins of off duty employees. I also updated testing procedures following ISO guidelines to ensure uniformity in test results. My Process Engineering roles at Boise Cascade supported the daily operations of the production facilities. I helped make the operations faster, better, whiter, rounder, cheaper and safer. Responsible for addressing quality issues, I created new paper grades to address quality issues such as curl and coating hold out. Involved in several cross functional teams, we identified and corrected several quality issues utilizing multi-variable testing and DOE trials. I was frequently called upon to travel to customer plants to help identify and correct quality and converting issues.

Working as a Technical Service Engineer I provided on-site engineering for chemical applications in paper mills. Many times I was called on to troubleshoot customer issues and pinpoint weaknesses within their production operations. I designed and built propriatary testing equipment and designed an envrionmentally controlled laboratory for paper testing resulting in corporate wide recognintion from the CEO.
