Three quick things to know about me: • I love working on complex puzzles. • My goal is the success of my customers, stakeholders, and colleagues. • I’m not afraid to think outside the box.I have enjoyed several positions throughout my career in research, sales, coaching, and customer service. Some things I have learned from these experiences: I am passionate about solving problems related to agriculture and human health:• Implemented field-based agricultural experiments to develop tangible solutions for wheat farmers resulting in 7 publications. • Developed 2 custom bioinformatics pipelines leading to >100K in repeat funding. I find satisfaction from providing tangible solutions for my customers:• Partnered with customers to provide hands-on instrument training and complex troubleshooting resulting in 98% customer satisfaction in 2022. • Collaborated with my customers to develop novel ddPCR assays and workflows which supported customer publication or product development. I drive myself to learn constantly and think creatively:• Transitioned from working in plant disease research in academia to applying my molecular biology knowledge supporting customers using droplet digital PCR in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. • Have grown from an individual contributor to a project manager and people manager with mentorship from other team members. Key Professional skills: Teaching | Science Communication | Sales | Customer service and support | Leadership | Interdisciplinary collaboration | People Management | Project Management | Solving complex problems | Continuous learningKey Technical skills: droplet digital PCR | Illumina / PacBio bioinformatics | agricultural experiment design | assay design | HPC | R Studio | R Shiny | Python | Bash | machine learning | complex stasticial modeling

Postdoctoral Research AssociateThe Ohio State University Jan 2021 - Oct 2021Wooster, Ohio, United StatesDeveloped custom bioinformatics pipeline implemented on a high performance computing cluster to analyze target capture PacBio long read sequencing data from soybean. Key bioinformatics skills used: Bash/Linux shell scripting, R and Python software packages; variant detection tools for SNPs/Indels including GATK, bcftools, snpEFF, VEP; phylogenetic tree construction with RaxML, unsupervised machine learning using kmeans and hierarchical clustering. -
Graduate Research AssistantThe Ohio State University Jul 2015 - Jan 2021Wooster, OhioMy dissertation focused on identifying viruses that are of high risk to wheat production in Ohio and quantifying their impact on wheat growth, yield, and quality. The goal was to develop solutions for wheat growers to mitigate the economic impact of viral diseases in their production systems. We created a comprehensive database of known, novel, and first-reported viruses potentially impacting wheat production in Ohio. We for the first time demonstrated that brome mosaic virus, a virus previously thought as an unimportant pathogen, can have a high (cause up to $25,302 loss) economic impact on wheat production. Some specific highlighted accomplishments are below:• Designed and implemented 5 major projects / 8 experiments / 3 locations / over 5 years in a field setting leading to 7 publications. • Collaborated with Ohio wheat growers to collect plant for a comprehensive statewide disease diagnostics survey in 2016 and 2017 leading to $25,000 in additional research grants from grower association. Developed a NGS bioinformatics pipeline to identify known and novel viruses from 3 RNAseq experiments for this project. • Optimized diagnostic assays and and molecular biology/biochemistry techniques including PCR, qPCR, primer design, cloning, ELISA, protein purification, and double-stranded RNA extraction leading to the development of new diagnostic assays to 5 previously undiscovered pathogens in Ohio. • Developed statistical analysis models to analyze the epidemiology, impact, and risk of wheat viruses using generalized linear mixed models, mixed model regression, logistic regression, cost-benefit analysis, spatial (runs and doublets) analysis, and meta-analysis leading to work being highlighted in USDA 2020 budget explanatory notes to U.S. congress (see below). • Strong science communicator to diverse audiences through written and oral formats as evidenced by 5 seminars, 3 technical presentations to farmers, 2 compendia, and 2 fact sheets for farmers. -
