As a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, I offer 30+ years of experience in private practice and hospital settings. With expertise in transcatheter valve therapies, I have collaborated to perform research, published 17 articles in peer-reviewed journals, led studies for Medtronic Corporation and Edwards Life Sciences as the principal investigator, and presented at national and global conferences. I have often been sought to advise on implementing minimally invasive surgical techniques in community-based hospitals. In addition, I have raised millions of dollars for nonprofit and private institutions and healthcare-related startup companies and gained knowledge in patent law, helping win enforcement cases. Leveraging my administration and HR experience and leadership of diverse entities, I create aligned goals and apply a humanistic approach to solving problems, while addressing financial, legal, and ethical implications.A few of my career highlights include:►Acquired board experience as a member of a hospital board for a publicly-traded company, as an advisory board member for a life sciences company, and as board chairman for a private college-prep school.►Elected president of the Florida Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons and served as a medical expert for the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration and member of the Medical Executive Committee for a regional hospital system.►Appointed managing partner of a cardiothoracic practice with 9 physicians, 2 locations, and top-line revenue of ~$20M, chaired the surgery department for a 460-bed hospital, and served as a governing board member for a large multispecialty clinic.►Developed and secured funding for the Lee Health System Structural Heart Program, working closely with the hospital board, administrators, and physicians to position the hospital as a leader in performing catheter-based aortic valve replacements. My Leadership StyleAs a collaborative and hands-on leader, I value the opinions and perspectives of others and enjoy dealing directly with people and problems. I encourage forward-thinking and hold people accountable, correcting direction with empathy and honesty. My StrengthsApplying a mindset of continuous improvement, I excel at finding the opportunities within chaos to move businesses forward. An excellent listener, I hear things and make connections that others miss, while developing relationships across a broad spectrum.I am on LinkedIn to network with other professionals. In this role, I resolved conflicts and addressed inappropriate physician behavior through coaching, monitoring, and following up with other surgeons across specialties. Additionally, I served as a member of the executive committee, comprised of physicians, administrators, and a lawyer and acted as a liaison between doctors, administrators, and the hospital board. As part of my role on the executive committee, I discussed and made recommendations on board-policy proposals and reviewed cases of physician misconduct, with the authority to suspend privileges.Key Contribution:►Ensured bylaw changes maintained the ability of physicians to practice, as well as consistency across the hospital system, by working with the lawyer representing the hospital.

As director, I conceived, developed, and served as the face of this program from inception. My work included writing the criteria for the credentials that allowed physicians to perform procedures, building and coordinating the team, and interacting with hospital administrators regarding personnel. In addition, I performed investigational studies for medical devices and traveled to Europe to train in catheter-based valve replacements.Key Contributions:►Secured $1.5M from the hospital board to build out an operating room dedicated to structural heart procedures.►Generated $1M in funding through the program, which led to serving as principal investigator on multiple studies through Medtronic Corporation and Edwards Life Sciences.►Played a key role in the hospital becoming the second U.S. facility to perform aortic valve replacement with catheter-based therapy, following FDA approval.
Recruited to promote advanced techniques, I brought new procedures to the practice, teaching and speaking to global audiences on minimally invasive valve surgery and catheter-based valve replacements and repair. Additionally, I performed surgical procedures and managed 4-7 cardiac surgeons and 2-4 vascular surgeons, opened and oversaw 2 additional cardiac surgical programs at Naples Community Hospital, expanded the practice to include a dedicated vascular surgeon, and built out vascular labs in office settings.
