Generation is a global non-profit youth employment organization founded by McKinsey & Company in 2014. It was born from a study that looked at 150 employment programs in 25 countries and surveyed 17,000+ employers, students, and education providers, identifying gaps in existing offerings and the most effective approaches to fill them.Generation encompasses a seven-step approach, with a 4-12-week boot camp-style training that integrates technical, behavioral, and mindset skills. By focusing on repeated practice of the most important activities for a role - what Generation calls “breakdown moments” - the program prepares graduates to perform well from day one on the job. Other elements of the approach such as the availability of mentors, direct access to employers, and focus on data, are also factors behind the success of the program.Generation is launched in Hong Kong in April 2018 aiming to tackle not only youth unemployment but also talent mismatch by bridging the gap between education to employment for both young people and employers.
