I am excited to share my experience as a Research Intern at Tampa General Hospital's Transplant Institute, in partnership with the Legacy Fund of LifeLink of Florida. This prestigious program selects a small group of medical students between their first and second years to participate in transplant-related clinical research, providing a unique and enriching experience.During this internship, I had the privilege of working on retrospective clinical research projects under the mentorship of experienced transplant providers. My responsibilities included:Literature Review: Collaborated with the medical librarian to review and gather relevant literature.Data Collection and Coding: Extracted and coded data from electronic medical records.Data Analysis: Worked closely with the statistician and PI to interpret data and derive meaningful insights.Manuscript Development: Co-authored abstracts and manuscript drafts with guidance from a medical writer.Presentation: Created and delivered a PowerPoint presentation at the Straz Center for the closing program.Additionally, the program offered opportunities to shadow physicians in the hospital setting and attend lectures on various transplant-related topics, further enhancing my understanding of this critical field. The primary objective of the program was to complete a research project, culminating in submissions to national conferences and peer-reviewed journals, where I am recognized as a contributing author.This experience has been invaluable in developing my research skills, understanding of transplant medicine, and professional growth. I am grateful for the mentorship and support provided throughout this journey and look forward to contributing to the field of transplant research in the future.
