System researcher and developer with expertise in building adaptive software systems that learn over time. Initially worked with neural networks but am now working with Bayesian networks, relational learning algorithms, and automated causal knowledge discovery systems. I have recently conducted a large social experiment using mobile phones across the campus of UMass to study collaboration and peer production systems. I also have experience working with NASA.Specialties: machine learning, knowledge discovery, peer production systems, mobile programming, neural networks, software engineering, verification and validation

Part of the data science team within the Sponsored Products organization of the Amazon Advertising Platform. We work to build models like CTR, CVR, and Relevance to predict the performance of context-based advertising. I am currently working on Auto Targeting which leverages data and modeling to automate the identification of opportunities for Ads to show based on contextual information.
Seattle, Wa, Us
Worked on the Display Advertising Cornerstone team responsible for developing and maintaining the core advertising server for the Performance Display component of the Amazon Advertising Platform. I was involved in both CTR and Purchase model experimentation and helping to implement the current AdServer system.
Amherst, Massachusetts, Us
Completed a PhD in CS in 2015 (while working full time.) Completed an MS in CS in 2008. My dissertation titled "Informed Search for Learning Causal Structure" delved into recasting causal learning, in this case the PC algorithm, as a Markov Decision Process and then developing a probabilistic policy to solve the problem. This policy was able to automatically identify Markov classes of causal models from an observational data set consistent with the PC algorithm. It did this by updating its prior over the causal model space into a posterior based on what it learned from applying causal inferences like marginal- and conditional-independence tests resulting in a marked reduction in the number of inferences needed to find the Markov class. My other research while in graduate school focused on knowledge discovery, relational learning, causal knowledge discovery, and collaborative peer-production systems. One interesting project I conducted was a social experiment involving nearly 100 individuals to study how people collaborate and compete in a photo sharing app.
