About Brian Julius

Over 35 years of experience in a wide range of data analytics/data science roles, both as a practitioner and as a senior manager of analytics teams.I hold a B.A. in Economics and a M.S. in Public Policy and Management, both heavily focused on econometrics and other quantitative methods. After beginning my career in economic consulting, I worked 30+ years for the U.S. Federal government, in a variety of data-driven roles, including: Economist/Econometrician, Business Analyst, Data Analyst/Data Scientist, Testifying Expert Witness, Deputy Chief FInancial Officer, IT System Owner, and Project Manager, as well as in a variety of executive/senior management positions.Since 2019, I have focused primarily on Power BI development, implementation and training, first serving as Project Manager on my agency's first large-scale implementation of Power BI. After retiring from the government in 2021, I began working full-time as the Enterprise DNA Chief Content Officer where previously I had served as a member of their Expert Team and a content creator. I currently oversee all the creation of all free and member-only technical content, and continue to serve as an expert and content creator myself.Within Power BI, I have particular interests in DAX and M coding, the use of bespoke visuals (such as Deneb and HTML/CSS VIewer) in reporting, and the integration of advanced analytical techniques using R.I remain a voracious learner and still find there's nothing that compares to the thrill of data revealing something unexpected or counterintuitive about the way the world works. Currently, my principal objective is helping people in the data field achieve their own goals. I strive daily to be a positive contributor to this great community that has generously given so much to me over the years.

Career Break Jul 2023 - Present
After working intensely and continuously since before the commercial internet existed, I decided I needed an extended break. The current pace of change within the data world is breathtaking, and thus I felt it was the perfect time to focus on diving deeply into the new AI tools, and better understanding how this emerging technology is going to reshape modern data analytics.Over these past months, I've been "walking the [data] earth like Caine in Kung Fu - meeting people and getting into adventures..."I've been writing extensively on LinkedIn about what I've learned so far on this sabbatical, and have taken on a few larger projects I will be rolling out in 2024.
