I am fortunate to join Code, just as COVID-19 begins where we are contributing towards the medical community in what we do every day. Code builds barcode scanning hardware and software that many hospitals rely on to quickly and safely manage their workflows making the medical staff more efficient in dealing with disasters such as C19. From traditional scanners that are made from materials that prevent the spread of viruses to mobile apps that integrate into advanced workflows, our products truly make a difference in peoples lives. Our solutions are not just in the medical field, from auto manufacturers scanning metal stamps, to the big Red Box you rent movies from, and even drones flying around warehouses taking inventory...we are everywhere!

What an exciting time in the world of IoT (Internet of Things)!! I'm thrilled to help Kinestral transition from an R&D startup into a company manufacturing and selling the most advanced smart tinting windows on the planet. I am the bridge between Marketing and Engineering keeping the two in harmony and responsible for leading the team to produce all of the cloud connected software that controls our windows. Working for a startup I wear many hats that vary day to do. One day I'm writing and prioritizing Epics and Stories in Jira with detailed documentation linked in Confluence. Another day I'm writing marketing drafts for data sheets, sales sheets, white papers, or even press releases. The days I love are the ones working across the various teams to set vision and roadmap or interviewing customers to learn about how they use our products.Kinestral has an incredibly large technology stack that has few rivals including: Electrochromic windows that took PHD chemists and physicists years to perfect, Linux based drivers and gateways, a world-wide cloud control system using many IoT technologies in Amazon AWS and others, various control systems using ReactNative web and mobile app based controls, installation tools, QC manufacturing tools, user mobile apps, analytics dashboards, and so on. All of this created and maintained by a highly talented and small team. For a techie, it's a bit like working at Disneyland.Within our cloud we run advanced automation algorithms and even machine learning to control every window to the perfect level of tint based on a wealth of information from sensor inputs, weather analysis, sun position, and even where people sit within the building to name just a few obvious and publicly known variables. I could go on for hours describing this technical masterpiece.

How do you blend a digital creative agency with a software and UX team to build beautiful products that people love? This is the main focus of my role.At Contravent we have two roles, one is all of the high paced agency work that keep the lights on and grows our portfolio, the other is a startup focused labs team that uses Agile fail fast methods to build new ideas, bring them to market quickly, test, and repeat. My role was working with customers, clients, and partners to understand needs and then work with our team and partners to build web or mobile app based software solutions. Work ranged from solving the difficult problems associated with ride-share for children in after school events, rethinking complex customer portals for CentryLink, inventing brand new ways for car dealerships to work with customers, and even launching a brand new Whiskey company for the Nitro Circus founders. The work was as diverse as all the people I had the pleasure of working with.

With a focus on Marketing Technologies my team builds backend systems such as email and mobile notifications, API feeds which send product catalogs to various websites such as Amazon, and eBay. My primary emphasis was architecting a big data API service for website personalization to make the shopping experience unique for each customer. We selected key technologies such as Hadoop, Hbase, PostgressSQL, and Tomcat to build a stack which can process massive amounts of data and serve the results via an API in 10ms. It's exciting to work with such a talented team and enjoy the culture of outdoor enthusiasts and athletes who make up the employees at: Backcountry.com, CompetitiveCyclist.com, MotoSport.com and many other outdoor retail sites.

Connect+ is a SaaS social collaboration and training community platform with advanced gamification used to increase rate of recommend by increasing brand knowledge, awareness, and building a relationship between a brand and the retail employees who sell the brand. I saw a need and opportunity to consolidate the many communities we have been running into a single platform. This approach reduces costs, complexity, and delivers a better product with more features to our clients. I manage the vision, features, roadmap, budget, and other aspects of this software product. I work extremely close with developers, project managers, and our clients to ensure this product is successful for everyone.
