The system used advanced machine learning technologies to identify new and common types of network attacks.Specified and implemented an XML-based feature description language to describe complex feature definitions to be evaluated at run-time. This language permitted analysts to create and experiment with new features which could be input to the anomaly detection system without requiring hard coded feature extraction routines.Analyzed algorithm performance and feature efficacy with respect to detecting targeted intrusion scenarios. This analysis resulted in an evidence predicate system which provided explanative power while significantly lowering false positives.Developed a generic network event feature extraction system used to gather IP, TCP/UDP, and ICMP data from live event streams. -
Director Of EngineeringStarbak 2000 - 2001Project manager for the Torrent 100, a high-performance network appliance based on Linux which delivers streaming video and audio to up to 2,200 simultaneously connected clients.Lead design and development of a Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) server, the open-standards component of the Torrent product from initial concept to first shipping version.Developed a software module which decoded multiplexed MPEG-1 media files into stream queue structures for subsequent network delivery to client players such as Apple Quicktime.

MtsLucent Technologies 1996 - 2000Espoo, Southern Finland, FiProject leader responsible for designing and implementing a robust IP routing architecture using BGP, OSPF, and IGRP to enable fast, reliable Internet access. Project involved major architectural changes to the Lucent corporate backbone networks and Internet perimeter networks, as well as major redesigns of both the corporate DNS infrastructure and Internet access security policies.Developed the network infrastructure architecture for secure web transaction and e-commerce applications. This design has been deployed internationally and is providing the networking and application infrastructure for Lucent's web-based e-commerce initiatives.Web proxy service engineer responsible for engineering and design of corporate-wide web proxy caching service. Deployed web proxy-caching servers at multiple core domestic locations as well as providing service for EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions. -
