My responsibilities at Metabolex Inc were varied. I was Head of Biology and ran a pre-clinical research department in the area of Type 2 diabetes. The department was responsible for pre-clinical in vitro and in vivo studies including target discovery and validation, assay development, compound screening, pharmacokinetic studies, in vivo efficacy and toxicology studies. I was also responsible for working closely with the business development team to form new parnterships around our pre-clinical and clinical stage assets. I was part of the team that successfully formed collaborations with Yamanouchi/Astellas, Johnson and Johnson, Takeda and Sanofi-Aventis.

As a post doctoral student at Dartmouth Medical School I worked in the area of insulin signal transduction. I was one of the first people to understand the role of SH2 domain interactions with insulin receptor substrates as being a key initial step in the insulin signal transduction process. I was also responsible for identifying and cloning two members of the insulin receptor substrate family namely IRS-3 and IRS-4.
