Customer facing technical & business development role in the Commercial Development department. Responsible for managing Materia's high temperature insulation (HTI) product line & developing new applications with customers.

My primary function is development of commercial products utilizing Materia, Inc. ROMP resin technologies, which are enabled by Grubbs catalyst(R) products. I serve as the point technical representative with customers and colleagues to define product specifications and meet technical milestones. My group is responsible for products from "cradle to grave," handling development, scaling in pilot trials, and technical transfer to customers.This involves significant technical and personnel project management.

-Development, formulation, testing and scaling of Proxima(R) resin technology, including Proxima HTI 1400, a thermoset resin used as thermal insulation for flow assurance in subsea pipelines-Lead team of 6-7 people in on-site pilot scale trials with customers for 3 new products-Extensive coordination of technical work plans with customer-Responsible for writing technical proposals and frequent internal/external update presentations & reports-Managed technical resources assigned to project (workplans and personnel/HR)-Provided commercial support to Director of Commercial Development and VP of Product Development-Involved with budgeting/projections/planning assistance to business development and opportunity analysis groups

My tenure was in 2 different R&D groups at Materia, Inc; the first was catalyst/fine chemical research focusing on development of silica supported functional ROMP polymers used as reagents in organic transformations. Subsequently, I worked on the synthesis, isolation and reactivity of highly energetic intermediates in the metathesis of electron deficient olefins. My second appointment was in the Process Technology group, where I lead an effort to optimize the commercial preparation of one of our leading catalyst products and to enable the commercialization of another.

Research in organic/organometallic chemistry working on the synthesis, characterization, and mechanistic studies of homogeneous oxidation catalysts. My focus was on Ru systems that operate by hydride abstraction. Characterization included extensive use of NMR and mass-spectral analyses. In the Williams lab, we applied organometallic complexes to problems in organic chemistry and energy storage. Specifically, these catalysts activate and functionalize inert C-H bonds and are some of the most robust and active transition metal catalysts for the release of hydrogen gas from ammonia-borane, a potential hydrogen storage compound.

I completed my PhD in chemistry with Professor Roy Periana, studying C-H activation and functionalization of alkanes. My focus was selective O-atom insertion and alkyl transfer reactions of transition metal-alkyl complexes for liberation of R-heteroatom products.
