 Reporting to the CEO, responsible for managing all aspects of the Advanced Technologies Group, a multi-disciplinary applied research organization with annual external funding between $2M and $4M. Supervise program managers, principal investigators, and research staff working on R&D projects in physics, electrical engineering, and signal processing/analysis for government customers in the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, and the National Science Foundation.  Oversee business development activities that have led to > $24M in competitive proposal wins since 2007, including more than $8M as Principal Investigator. Technical lead on projects in the areas of nighttime imaging and face recognition, standoff optical detection of explosives, and fiber-optic communication.

 Led and managed the Optical Interconnects research group including optical, electrical, mechanical, semiconductor device, process, and test engineers, and process and assembly technicians. Worked closely with the Fiber Optic Products Division on standards, roadmaps, and strategic customer relationships in the area of high-density optical interconnects. Secured funding for $4.8M DARPA program on high-density optical interconnects for high-performance computing. As PI, led multidisciplinary team in demonstrating world’s highest bandwidth-density optical interconnect. Led collaboration with IBM to study the integration of optical interconnects into high-performance computer systems. Contributed 32 patents in the area of optical interconnects and data communication. Investigated new project areas relating to life sciences, automated test, and high-speed measurement businesses, as well as basic research in silicon light-emission. Advised Agilent Ventures on strategic investments in photonics-related businesses.
