Develops unit operations, training, and preparedness plans to meet the needs of the agency's Aviation Operations Plan. Manages the program's aerial firefighters in support of fire aviation operations and ensures the aircrew program meets the department's standards and qualifications. Works with interagency partners and serves as an air operations representative to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and business practices.

Planned, organized, and directed DNR's statewide Interagency Wildland Fire Academy program, and was responsible for developing and implementing systems to ensure DNR personnel and state/local agencies met national certification requirements. Responsible for evaluating and recommending strategic direction, agency policy, procedures, and guidelines with respect to fire program training needs.

Prepared agency leaders, managers, and employees to respond safely and effectively during emergencies and subsequent business recovery efforts. Influenced the understanding and acceptance of emergency management decisions around preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Advised and assisted managers, supervisors, and staff in carrying out their respective roles in emergency management.

Implemented the Fire Suppression, Fire Training, and Prevention and Regulation programs for the Spillman Fire Unit in DNR's South Puget Sound Region. Became a leader of leaders, and provided countless firefighters with the tools to transition from followers to leaders.

Supervised six engine crews across three counties, and became a leader of people. Continued as a student of fire, while taking on a formal role as a teacher of fire.

Fought fire with plenty of dirt, a little water, and a bit of fire. Honed tactical off-road driving skills, developed an appreciation for felling trees, and routinely produced 2-Second Lean solutions. Became a student of fire, practiced leadership skills, and protected homes in the wildland urban interface.

Spent more than a decade filling a variety of roles while steadily moving up the ranks. Positions generally had titles that included business analyst or project manager, ultimately concluding with a "senior" prefix. Time and energy was divided among Farmers Insurance, Inspire Insurance Solutions, Smith Micro Software, Edward Surovell Realtors, and Cabrillo General Insurance Agency. Invaluable knowledge and experience gained during my tenure; now being applied with ninja-like execution to issues faced in the public sector.
