I am Co-Founder and Director of the Positive Group, a company dedicated to improving the psychological wellbeing, resilience and performance of individuals and teams.I trained in medicine and gained a Masters in Health Psychology from Surrey University before going on to train in cognitive and behavioural psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, London. I worked as a specialist in the Academic Department of Psychological Medicine, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, where I was involved in clinical practice, research and education. Initially the main focus of my work was the causes and consequences of stress and I wrote my Masters thesis on ‘burnout’.Over the past ten years I have worked collaboratively with a team of highly experienced doctors, psychologists and executive coaches at the Positive Group, drawing on the latest advances in neuroscience, psychology and the medical sciences to create a range of programmes designed to improve psychological health and performance in different organisations.Alongside my work for Positive, I have held a number of academic roles including visiting lecturer on the MSc Programme for Human Resource Management at Birkbeck College and on the MSc Oncology Course at the University of London. I have also worked as Medical Advisor on psychological health and wellbeing to NHS Sussex.I have written numerous articles and contributed to several books including ‘The Mind: A User’s Guide’ (Bantam Press) and ‘Biopsychosocial Medicine: An integrated approach to understanding illness' (Oxford University Press).
