Uhlmann Packaging delivers packaging machines for bottle and blister lines that quickly prepare pharmaceuticals for use by the end consumer.Responsible for designing blister packaging layouts that meet the complex and application-specific needs of the industry. Utilize SolidWorks in designing precision blister machine tooling to be manufactured using in-house CNC. Create tooling quotations based on customer’s current machine capabilities. Optimize line speed and throughput. Develop innovative ways to solve problems and cut costs with my extensive experience in rapid prototyping.

Significant Responsibilities:Oversaw the usage, repair, and engagement of tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, basic shop equipment, DIY electronics. Assisted students, faculty, and startups in developing new products from concept. Trained a weekly certification class on how to utilize CAD and 3D printing to quickly design functional products. Manage booths showcasing the Rutgers Makerspace at large events such as Makerfaire 2015. Designed a compact and inexpensive Google Cardboard kit, utilizing efficient flat pattern layouts to reduce our cardboard requirement by 75%.

Our goal was to create a low-cost Stereolithographic 3D printer capable of printing microstructures.Elected as the team leader to delegate tasks, troubleshoot, and ultimately kept the project on schedule. Given the many challenges that this type of team approach presented, I was able ensure that the team worked in a self-governing fashion through resolve, diplomacy, compromise, and constant communication.Significant Responsibilities:Directed the design initiative for our prototype by assessing project constraints and planning within them. Assisted group members in understand the fundamentals of 3D printing. Detailed design of the build platform, polymer bath, and Z-axis lift mechanism. Fabricated parts in the Rutgers machine shop for use with our printer. Worked on assembly and calibration of the 3D printer. Exhibited our printer at the Rutgers Day event at the conclusion of Spring 2015 semester. Problem-Solving:During the electrical systems testing phase, we ran into a problem which resulted in badly damaging our stepper motor driver. After ordering a new driver, I designed an adapter for a smaller stepper motor which was able to run with a driver we had on hand so we could continue testing as the new one shipped. Created models and drawings of necessary parts for fabrication in an expansive machine shop. Carefully planned dimensions, tolerances, and drawing layouts for readability and accuracy. Incorporated sheet metal bending, cutting, and forming within the machine design process. Custom designed and drafted lift cam and roller systems liquid filling equipment. Extensively used SolidWorks EPDM vault for version control and product management.

Organized and implemented the maintenance and modification of a Makerbot Replicator 2X. Designed and updated lab stations using 80/20 Erector Set. Compiled parts list for Bill of Materials to place specific orders and track parts throughout the design and assembly process. Performed advanced modeling using Solidworks for 3D printing and careful post-processing of printed and machined parts. Trained industrial robot positions for automated operation. Rendered photo-quality images and videos of parts in motion.
