I joined Simple as the second employee in a hands-on role and transitioned into leadership positions as the company grew. I took over the engineering organization in 2011 after our founding CTO left the company. During my tenure as VPE we launched, grew our customer base to over 100,000, and tripled the size of our team.As VP of Engineering, I was the lead technologist in the company and reported to the CEO. My organization was responsible for the end to end design, development, deployment, and support of the product and technology stack. In addition I worked actively with the executive management team providing strategic and tactical support across the entire company.I managed 10 direct reports in a 30+ member engineering organization that included frontend, backend, mobile, operations, data, and security teams. In addition, I partnered with our product team to drive the product implementation process from inception to deployment. I also managed technical partner integration with all of our banking, finance, and technology partners.

Topsy is a search engine powered by content from Twitter, widely considered to be the best Twitter search engine available. We also offer an open API called Otter and the Topsy Retweet Button which are collectively used by 1000's of websites.As the 2nd member of a 5 person Operations team at Topsy, I am lead for front-end services (CDN, web, cache, etc.) and networking. In addition I support leads on OS/environment, monitoring, database/backend services, and datacenter/hardware. I work alongside Engineering and collaborate especially closely with them on issues concerning performance, scalability, and deployments. In addition to my Ops responsibilities I also manage external communications. This includes managing the Topsy Twitter account, user/tech support, PR, blogging, media outreach, and contributing to external partner/technical integration. Yeah, I'm busy.

I am currently consulting through OOF Industries, LLC at Gap Inc. Direct as a Technical Architect within the Infrastructure group. In this role I am the technical lead of the Operations track of an ongoing data center and managed services provider transition program.My primary responsibility is to ensure the seamless transition of GID's production operations to new facilities and new third-party management while simultaneously updating all existing operations processes and procedures including monitoring, run books, test procedures, triage procedures, team responsibilities and coordination, and so on.

I managed the production infrastructure operations at Gap Inc. Direct, the online division of Gap Inc., on behalf of their managed services partner Verizon Business. In this role I was responsible for all production online operations for bananarepublic.com, gap.com, oldnavy.com, and piperlime.com. I transitioned from this role into a direct consulting role at GID beginning in January 2008.

I worked as a consulting system engineer within GID on behalf of their managed services provider Verizon Business in a professional services role in support of the launch of a new brand -- piperlime.com -- as well as provided support during the peak holiday sales period.

As a member of the Ersatz Brain Group, a multi-disciplinary research group working on developing high performance brain-like software and hardware computing environments, my duties included performing research, analysis, review, and design of software, hardware, documentation, and scholarship relevant to the project.

I was hired to build a new high-performance Internet computing lab for the CS department after it won an NSF infrastructure grant in support of research into Internet-scale computer science problems. In this role I built out multiple OS X and Linux clusters, and was responsible for all infrastructure engineering associated with the lab, as well as user support and coordination with department and campus IT groups.

I led a project to create and support a high performance research computing infrastructure within the BC IT organization. Working with faculty, staff, and consultants, I was responsible for the successful ground up specification, installation, development, and management of an HPC platform that supports computational academic research. I left BC upon successfully transitioning my responsibilities to client staff.

As an extension of my academic research, I worked on a cognitive computing project. My role included developing application and commercialization strategies as well as contributing to specification, research, and development. In this role I co-wrote a winning DARPA SBIR proposal that provided the bulk of the funding for ongoing research.

I served as a domain expert in an investment group that was responsible for making venture investments on behalf of Sony Music.I also served as the chair of an internal Sony Corporation of America working group tasked with designing an integrated IT infrastructure technology platform for the entire family of Sony business units within the United States. In both of these roles, I acted as an advisor to other Sony operating companies and participated in other Sony investment groups, with my work focusing on issues related to network computing, distributed systems, security, and other network technology. I left Sony in May of 2002 to begin coursework and academic research at Brown University.
