The guiding principle for Brian's work is that we should all earn our place - in the home, the community, the workplace and the world.He has won numerous awards for journalism, editing and creative writing and a Fellowship of Australian Writers National Literary Award for his major work, The Life of Jude.He has won several awards for editorial writing and he is particularly proud of these because the editorials resulted in changes to government policy for the benefit of the community and especially the disadvantaged. Brian has been heavily involved in community work, volunteering and charity work for almost 50 years. He was very active for nearly 30 years but has been disabled for 20 years now. This has not stopped him. In fact, being confined to his computer and his writing he feels he has achieved more over a wider range of activities.His major commitment in recent years has been to justice and reconciliation for Australia's Aboriginal people - the oldest living culture in the world. In fact, being confined to his computer and his writing he feels he has achieved more over a wider range of activities.His major commitment in recent years has been to justice and reconciliation for Australia's Aboriginal people - the oldest living culture in the world. They are severely disadvantaged in their own country.His current work also includes work for the blind in disadvantaged countries (through support for the Fred Hollows Foundation) and advocating better funding for both the National Disability Support Scheme and homelessness (through the Wellway organisation). He also works for mental illness (particularly for the young); autism (he has two relatives with autism); the rights of children, particularly in countries where child labor is allowed; the phasing out of single-use plastics to help clear oceans and waterways; and the replacement of fossil fuel energy by renewable energy. Brian is an advocate for integrity and kindness and a firm enemy of injustice and discrimination. He was an office-bearer doing community work in Australian Jaycees for 10 years.He was the regional fundraising campaign organiser for four years for Red Cross, National Heart Foundation & Salvation Army. He also raised funds for Campbelltown Hospital, NSW Ambulance Service, the Blind and Deaf, the homeless and others over the yearsBrian started NSW Arthritis Association branch in the Macarthur area with his wife and co-chaired the committee that established the Campbelltown Sheltered Workshop for the disabled.He worked for organisations like Odyssey House Drug Rehabilitation Centre and The Fred Hollows Foundation to give sight to the disadvantaged around the world.
