As Immersive Education Solutions Manager, I led Lenovo's VR Classroom, an Immersive Learning solution for K12 and Higher Education. I built end-to-end solutions for Lenovo's Education Solutions team, from ideation and planning to execution. These solutions combined VR headsets with high-quality educational content, device management, professional development training services, and end-to-end support. We brought scaleable and complete immersive learning experiences to hundreds of schools.I created and launched solutions worldwide, and provided XR and education expertise to Lenovo teams worldwide. I was responsible for solution and product development, go to market strategy, working closely with ISVs and other partners, P&L, pricing, solution assurance, marketing planning, sales training planning, UX/CX testing, channel development/training, launch execution, and post-launch support.The work had a great mission: using immersive technology to empower people to learn better and become better versions of themselves.

I created a cross-campus network for XR, including founding three groups related to Augmented and Virtual Reality at UNC: one for faculty seeking to use immersive technology in the classroom and research (XR Faculty Learning Community); a project-based student group (CARVR); and an open group for everyone that held monthly talks, demos, and networking meetings (UNC ARVR Interest Group). I provided XR consulting across all disciplines, and built strategy for cross-campus XR initiatives for research, clinical care, teaching, and learning. By raising funding through grant programs, I created an XR device library for demos and XR projects across campus. I also led XR projects including a brain-machine interface for VR and AR applications, as well as 360 experiences for pediatric patients deployed at UNC Hospitals.

I led the Health Sciences Library’s Department of Health Technology and Informatics, overseeing initiatives including the Library’s web sites, health informatics, access to clinical and point-of-care tools, usability and user experience, data management and visualization, mHealth, digitization, and emerging technologies. In this role I was also the head of Digital Health @HSL, providing consultations, workshops, connections, and devices to promote digital health research at UNC. A primary focus of my mission in this position was building connections among the health innovators at UNC's health affairs schools - Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Public Health - to catalyze progress in clinical care, research, teaching, and learning. I also served as a connector between this area on campus and diverse outside groups, including other universities, thought leaders, large companies, and startups.

The Triangle Health 2.0 group was created with a mission to build a community of people in the area who are interested in healthcare innovation and technology. The group connects doctors, startups, scholars, behavioral health specialists, hospitals, and all others who share that mission. For many years the group was active online on our LinkedIn group online, at periodic in-person events, and via partnerships with related groups.

I worked as the Health Strategy Director at Thrive 4-7, a Health IT startup based in Morrisville, NC, helping to develop engaging, person-focused health platforms that influence behavior change, impact outcomes, deliver health improvements, and solve complex emotional health challenges. I was responsible for product portfolio strategy, product lifecycle management, and ecosystem partnership development, in a position that ranged between marketing, operations, technology, and strategic components.

I was the creator and one of the organizers for the Triangle's health-themed Startup Weekend. It was a chance for people who work across the spectrum of healthcare technology and innovation - providers, large companies, startups, scholars, developers, and others - to get together for a weekend to test out a business model, and potentially start a new business. In just over 48 hours, people gather, split into teams to tackle a problem, do market research and some customer validation. At the end of the weekend they pitch their solution to a panel of judges and, potentially, investors.For this event we not only had people coming up with business ideas as pre-set solutions, but also invited companies and providers to come with some problems they would like to see solved, or resources like data sets and APIs that teams can use.

I worked with the SGHI Exchange since its inaugural meeting in June 2013, serving as a consultant on technical implementation. The group - made up of representatives from UNC, IBM, RTI, BCBS and more - is building an exchange where people can upload their own self-generated health information to a central repository, that information can be shared with researchers and organizations that are interested in that information. Individuals who share their data will be able to receive benefits such as micropayments, health devices and services, or coupons.

As Project Manager at the UNC School of Medicine, I was involved in a range of projects, from creating a data set to map the changing curriculum to helping build an informatics component of the MD program. Some of my projects include a suite of web applications to replace over 15 legacy desktop applications used in the Office of Medical Education and managing the Sakai Learning Management System for the School of Medicine. I also served as Project Manager for NC Area Health Education Centers (NC AHEC), working on an application for tracking Electronic Health Records data for practices across North Carolina.Additionally, I have been involved in application development more broadly, implementing an online database application used for curriculum mapping written in .Net. I also worked on improving workflow and systems within the School of Medicine, and have trained in Lean/Six Sigma at UNC Healthcare.

I wore several hats at the School of Medicine. My primary interest was working on systems, both technological and human, that provide better and more efficient service. Towards that end I created websites, wrote some code, designed custom applications, and worked with the systems team to integrate the various technologies that make the school run. As Managing Director of Wilson Sloan, I managed a team of 10 employees dedicated to promoting companies online. We created websites for our customers using Joomla, WordPress, Drupal and custom PHP and XHTML work, but we also wrote promotional content, managed press releases, and bolstered their web presence through the use of Search Engine Optimization and outreach through social media. In addition to the technical component of my job, I also was also in charge of customer relations, hiring, firing, training, and employee payroll.

My position at the UNC School of Medicine involved a range of multiple duties, from creating web pages (either from scratch using XHTML, CSS and Javascript, or using our Plone-based Content Management System) to training and assisting School of Medicine faculty and staff to use various types of software such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, SSH, Excel and Powerpoint.
