In my current position, I have gained countless experiences in acute care settings including critical care, intermediate and step-down care, and emergency care. I have furthered my education by completing Duke’s nurse residency program as well as obtaining my CCRN. Through my time in nursing school, I gained over 550 clinical hours and an additional three years of clinical experience working as a nursing assistant in various patient care settings. The experiences I have gained throughout working have enhanced my time management, flexibility, communication, leadership, organization, and prioritization skills. I have worked in a variety of patient care settings. I began in the long-term care facility where I had my nursing assistant clinicals, as I fell in love with some of the residents there. I moved into a hospital position due to my interest in nursing school, and I wanted a better feel for the flow of acute inpatient care compared to long-term care. I then applied for a second job in the Emergency Department to satisfy my desire for increased patient acuity and traumatic injuries. This also gave me a greater variety in my patient population, thus preventing burnout.I received the Tulip Award for exceptional patient care through my job at Lynchburg General Hospital in 2021. I was nominated by a patient who felt I had treated them as part of my family rather than a number to be checked off a list.At Piedmont Community College, I received the Bright Star Award for most outstanding dual-enrolled student in April of 2016, as well as Magna Cum Laude graduation distinction in May of 2019.
