Senior Software Engineer

Shannon, County Clare, Ireland

Senior Software engineer acting as Agile Product Owner developing a new vehicle wide ECU lifecycle (power) management solution - both the architecture and the implementation. The work involves liaising with vehicle feature teams at both high (functional requirement) and low (ECU implementation) levels to ensure our Vehicle Lifecycle Controller is architecturally flexible enough to encompass all ECUs in our vehicles, but also configurable enough to cater for the vagaries of specific ECUs and their hosted features. From these discussions my team formulated a design which I approved. Based on our team resources, along with the delivery schedules for the vehicle ECUs (both the hardware and the feature software), I as the PO determined, then managed, the feature release delivery plan for our product.

Software Engineer

Jaguar Land Rover

Gaydon, Warkwickshire, Great Britain

Software engineer supporting third-party software used in a new Vehicle Domain Controller for a new product line.JLR design and manufacture automobiles. Traditionally they outsourced software development to tier one suppliers (Bosch, etc), but with the realisation that future profit will come from software (and levering metrics from it), JLR has expanded its in-house software development & test.Am responsible for supporting a third-party middleware that enables silo’ed JLR applications (running in multiple VM’s within a single EDCU) to communicate with each other using a service oriented architecture. The work involves liaising with the various application teams (both local and remote) to a) help them understand the middleware and how best use it, b) assist with implementation issues, c) work with the test teams to understand bugs and possible causes, d) liaise with the third party company to explain issues and discuss solutions and release schedules, and e) manage the release processes, both from the third party, and into the VDC product. This requires a lot of communication to keep all parties updated, especially with fix and release dates. Worked with SDLC team to create VM’s in GCP to assist s/w development in a linux environment for engineers using Windows PC’s. This involved setting up access rights across multiple domains (for GIT & Artifactory).
