Visits with loved ones in psychiatric hospitals and rehab facilities were commonplace as I grew up. The gaps in wraparound services for those I cared about were astounding and painful, with lasting consequences. These formative memories planted seeds that would later grow into inspiration and determination to become a clinician and support change in the mental health field. I strive to be the practitioner that my friends and family needed most.Professional Life: I align myself with organizations and individuals who prioritize evidence-based, community-centered, person-first care that is focused on establishing natural supports, mental health skill-building, and relapse prevention. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices are appropriately integrated into any organization I join. My personal development and opportunities for social education and engagement are of equal value to CEUs and industry conferences.Some Personal Beliefs: - Medication is not for everyone, but it is life-saving for many and should be respected as an integral part of someone's treatment plan, as needed. - Chemical dependency and addiction are not defining characteristics of anyone and that a harm reduction model is the most effective way of helping someone achieve their individual use/sobriety goals. - The most frequent debates in psychology such as nature vs. nurture, mind vs. body, person vs. situation, etc. leave no room for dialectics and assume a simple standard for a complex mind. - We as human beings are composites of so many values, lessons, experiences, relationships, ideals, memories, and influences that we are naturally capable of exponential growth if presented with the appropriate tools to succeed. Passions: As a queer woman, I enjoy treating LGBTQIA+ youth and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, personality, and psychotic disorders. Assisting clients in maintaining practical, necessary self-care habits that are ignored by social media trends is an area of deep importance to me. I love guiding clients towards their natural gifts and strengths to better overcome their obstacles, because not enough champion their resilience, resourcefulness, and inner hope. Future: I am having my dog trained for Animal Assisted Therapy so she can provide her natural comfort and relief to the populations I serve. I look forward to more academic opportunities that come with my ever-present desire for learning. I am excited to travel again and connect with individuals who will challenge me to grow personally and professionally.
