About Brianne Gridley, M.Ed.
When working with college students, three words come to mind: objectivity, empathy, and respect. As a higher education professional, these are three things I strive to provide the students who I encounter every day. Currently, I am serving as a career advisor in the A. James Clark School of Engineering in their Engineering Career Services office at the University of Maryland in College Park. I currently work with current students and alumni in seeking out ways to develop themselves in their career, set and meet their goals, and develop the skills they need to be effective in their field. I also regularly run workshops for students, speak to prospective Clark School students, and teach a 1-credit course that allows me to guide students through the internship process from developing their first resume to navigating the interview and beyond. Prior to this I served as an academic advisor working with students obtaining their education through apprenticeship programs at Howard Community College. As well as a number of years working on transition programs for students starting in the summer at Penn State University. I believe that no two students are the same, and that meeting students where they are and trying to understand their perspective will allow me to take them farther than if I had just told them what they had to do and sent them on their way. Finding creative solutions to complex or unique situations is one way I do this. I believe this is critical in assisting students on setting, pursuing, and reaching their goals.
